Christmas with the Brown's

We spent quite a bit of time in KY with Philip's parent's and his brother and family. Unfortunately my mother-in-law was sick the week before they came, rallied while they were here and was sick the week following. My boys were sick pretty much the entire week. Nothing huge just runny noses, fever, and coughing. Most of it lasted 48 hours and then was over. Here are some pictures of our time together.

We snapped some shots of the cousins right after church on Sunday.

Christmas Plays

We have entered a new phase of parenting and that is developing a new appreciation for children's Christmas plays. I've always enjoyed watching the eagerness and nervousness on their faces from an observers perspective but you see it through new eyes when you're a parent and your child is involved.

Allan is participating in the Aldersgate Christian Academy kindergarten music class and so he was able to join their Christmas program. He seemed to enjoy is but said that the lights made his eyes water and that made him nervous. Here he is with his buddy Toby Butcher.

Both Allan and Daniel were in our church Christmas program as part of the Nativity scene. Daniel was a shepherd and Allan played the part of Joseph. I wasn't able to see them because I was in the nursery with Stephen who naps during that time. They tell me that Allan held "baby Jesus" very tenderly and was very father-like which interested me. We don't have any doll babies around our home but it seemed like he knew what to do with it.

Another Flurry (of blog posts that is)

Lately I've been blogging "machine gun style"! Here are a few pre-Christmas updates.

This is what I saw the other morning when I went in to wake the boys. Daniel has really been struggling to stay in his bed at night. But we made it clear that he can't sleep in the crib with Stephen...there isn't enough room.

The last day of finals my discipleship group came over for a meal. I decided to go Oriental since all three of them are from Korea. We had a great time and they were tickled that I was able to fix "sticky" rice :o) Gloria and Grace are sisters. This semester was Gloria and Caroline's first in the USA. Grace has been here a full year. They've made such progress in their English acquisition and I'm proud of them. We laugh about differences in communication and culture but it's been a profitable learning experience on both ends. The boys love them dearly.

There was a new Kroger store that opened in Newport, KY and so the boys and I visited. They had a new (for us) kind of citrus fruit on sale for $1.00 so I bought one. It is a pummelo and it tastes like a grapefruit except it's not as bitter. The rind is very thick though and the inside flesh would be about the same amount as a grapefruit.

Another Cake

A local pastor celebrated 25 years of pastoring and I was asked to make the cake for the celebration. It was a winter theme with blues and silvers. I thought it turned out okay. I particularly like using the edible snow and iridescent glitter for a wintery effect.

Incognito

Look who I found inconspicuously mopping my kitchen floor the other day? I have know idea how he got the sunglasses on himself but he looked mighty proud.

First Snow of the Year

It snowed for the first time already this year and the boys spent a good hour and a half playing in it.

First Chicken Leg

Stephen ate his first chicken drumstick the other evening...and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Grandsons

Mom bought the boys matching outfits and we attempted to get a picture but it didn't work out. Here are just a few.

Odds-n-ends

One thing we didn't lack was good food! WOW!

My parents with my sons.

My nephew, Bryce, whom we met for the very first time.

My nephew, Evan.

Daddy and Stephen.

Fun days

The boys had many things to keep them occupied while we were in PA.

Pappy and Grandma bought a swingset for the grandchildren and had it installed before they all arrived.

"You been farming long?"

Pappy took the boys rides on the lawn tractor and wagon.

We visited a farm to watch the cows being milked. This was a first for my boys.

While in PA my parents and brother, David, went to cut their Christmas tree so we decided to get one also and bring it back to OH! It was terribly cold that day but I'm so happy to have a real tree that wasn't dead and spray painted green :o)

Thanksgiving

We went to PA this year for Thanksgiving to visit my family. All of my siblings and their families were there and we had a wonderful time. We arrived late Wednesday evening and then all of us were together on Thanksgiving day and also some of my mom's family came so we had a full house (20 total). Grandma Miller was unable to come due to illness and we sure missed her!

Taking naps on the way there.

Uncle Jeff helping with food preparation.

Visiting before the meal.

We had a great time! With mom's health so uncertain from year to year we're thankful for all of the times we're able to be together as a family. There is much to be thankful for.
