A little bit of this and that

We had a lovely Thanksgiving this year! Several other staff and faculty members got together for a Thanksgiving feast and there were also a number of students who joined us as well. Unfortunately, my pictures didn't turn out of that event. It was also the first time I'd ever done a turkey and thankfully, it turned out just fine.

The day after Thanksgiving we set out to find a Christmas tree. It has always been my desire for our family to cut our own - usually cheaper and definitely more memories. I'd found several possibilities and so we decided to try Hilltop Pines this year - just off the AA hwy in KY. I wasn't at all what I expected but the price ($25 any size) was right. We arrived right after the opening and set off to find the "perfect" tree.

The boys didn't overly enjoy all the walking and the tree we found was at the far corner of the lot!

But we did indeed find a tree and Philip managed to carry it out (it was necessary to carry because the cows foraged this area and were the only caretakers of the place).

So we now have a "shooting star tree" since it didn't have a central stem but once you get lights and icicles on any tree it somehow takes on the magic of Christmas.

On a side note: That was the day we also received our first skiff of snow. On the way to get the tree we stopped by WalMart and picked up sleds so that we'd be ready for the "big" one.
