Another First

Last evening in family worship Allan led out in "Great and Mighty" so Philip and I chimed in on the harmony. Typically when we've done that in the past, the melody gets lost but not this time.

I love it! Some of our kids have recently discovered part singing and are practicing staying on their pitches when the parts break off. Sometimes I'm pretty sure no one knows where the tune really is! I grit my teeth and bear it, because it's worth it to hear them experimenting. The other day we managed (by moving children strategically around the room to help everyone hold their part) for the first time to sing 4-part harmony. It certainly wouldn't have won any musical awards, but it sure was exciting for us. : ) Good times.

Your trio was absolutely beautiful.

Sara, We actually went to your dad several years ago because Allan just couldn't carry a tune to save his life (which was very distressing for PHilip and I since we both love music). Your dad said to give him a few years and he'd grow out of it. He was right....and I sure hope that's what's going on with the other two. Daniel actually refuses to sing because he knows he's off key. Stephen sings a very lusty monotone! It was just so FUN when it worked the other night!

Your description of the other two made me laugh out loud. Sounds to me that if Daniel can tell he's off tune you have no worries. My voice students who CAN'T hear when they're off are the ones who have the hardest time. His refusal to sing is a very good sign. I also relate to your description of Stephen. Sometimes our kids sing with such vim and vigor (seemingly without any regard whatsoever for beauty) David and I have to make the decision to let them sing their hearts out and remind them to make it pretty rather than shushing them all the time.

Beautiful!!! I played it over and over, smiling each time. Grandma would be so proud.

That's great! We have been working on harmony too. I love the smile on Clayton's face at the end of a song. :)

Hi Marianne,

I enjoyed reading your love story, and wondered if you'd mind us linking to it over at the Young Ladies Christian Fellowship website. You can check us out at: www.ylcf.org/courtship-stories.

Just let me know if you aren't comfortable with us linking to you.

Thanks so much for considering us!

Lis,
It's fine with me if you'd like to link up to our story although I'm not sure how much it falls under the current "Courting" definition.
Blessings,
Marianne
